If you do some basic maintenance on your Computer, it
can avoid you costly computer repairs and keep your computer
healthy. This is basic computer knowledge. Let us look at some of
these golden rules…. It is not difficult and anyone can do it. It
should be done on a regular basis.
Always use the Windows shutdown button to switch of
the computer. There are always some system files running
in the background, If you switch off the computer using the
pc power off
button then
these file may not save and the computer will crash. You will lose
all unsaved data. Danger
Windows may not reboot and you may have to re-install your pc. So
please take precautions. The only time, when you have no other
option but to use the power off
button is when the computer freezes. But before doing this try pressing
CTRL+ALT+DELETE and use the
Click on the SHUT DOWN button.
This will prevent from loss of any data. If this is not possible
then switch of the computer.
Regularly do a Disk Cleanup to free hard disk
space This is an essential part of PC maintenance. To
open Disk Cleanup, click Start, point to
All Programs, point to
Accessories, point to System
Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup This
will clean up
your temporary internet folders containing cookies,
temporary files
it will compress unused software, don’t worry, they are still
accessible even when compressed
it will empty your recycle bin
This will considerably free up a lot of disk space.
System Backup The Backup utility helps you
create a copy of the system information on your hard disk. In the
event that the original data on your hard disk is accidentally
erased or overwritten, or becomes inaccessible because of a hard
disk malfunction, you can use the copy to restore your lost or
damaged data. To start Backup, click Start, point
to All Programs, point to
Accessories, point to System
Tools, and then click Backup. Give it a
name/reference that you can remember. Say for e.g. “before
installing a game” Always do a backup before installing
a new software. If anything goes wrong then you can retrieve it
with the Restore
command.
